OUR SERVICES

At SALEM we offer short term placements for young people that are struggling to facilitate a structured way of living. We offer crisis intervention and respite to young people from varying backgrounds, to which last a maximum of 28 days. However we also offer support and assistance with their reintegration to a new placement or place of living if so required.

CRISIS INTERVENTION

The crisis intervention service has been designed primarily to support local authorities who are under pressure to find placements for young people who require an immediate and short-term emergency response to mental, emotional, physical, or behavioural distress or who require support to maintain a placement which is on the brink of breaking down.

The service provides an activity, outdoor based programme for up to 28 days, based in the heart of the Peak District. We provide a tailor made programme of activities based around the young person, on a case by case basis. These consist of adventurous activities combined with therapeutic approaches to help support the young person in a time of heightened apprehensiveness.

RESPITE & MENTORING

Through our respite and mentoring services, we can offer support and a temporary break to social care providers, families, schools and other care/education providers who require a safe, positive, educational and attentive option for their young person. The support can help maintain current placements, transition to new placements, relieve pressure and help improve their physical, social and emotional wellbeing. Our programmes are tailored on an individual basis, to align with each young person's ongoing support services.

Often young people in need of respite struggle with mainstream education - we set a high standard for alternative education for young people, in order to provide an authentic, productive and achievable way of learning.

Our aim is for these programmes to lead to a stability in the young persons behaviour and improve their emotional wellbeing and ability. With the implementation of PACE, low arousal techniques, and the use of a least restrictive practice, this enables SALEM to create a tranquil and restful environment for our young people.

These services offer caregivers time to respond and maximise their potential for a positive transition into their future placement or place of living. Should the client move to a new placement or place of living, SALEM are able to offer a support service to help facilitate a smooth transition.
